Why is it Crucial to Teach Goal Setting to Kids?

Seth Godin once said, “The thing about goals is that living without them is a lot more fun, in the short run. It seems to me, though, that the people who get things done, who lead, who grow and who make an impact… those people have goals.” How true is that! After all, only those who have their eyes set on both short and long term goals know how to carve a path to reaching out to and accomplishing those goals. Now the question is if goal-setting is really meant for kids, or is it a thing meant only for adults?

At The Star Global School, we believe that having a goal in life is just as essential for the young minds as it is for adults. In fact, the habit of goal setting is best established when it is formed during the childhood years. Goal setting helps lay the path to teaching the kids to be more organized and planned. It helps build a positive and confident mindset in children and prepares them to rise to any challenge they come across.

So today, we, at The Star Global School, one of the leading schools in Rohtak, have brought forth for you some of the primary benefits of goal setting for the kids and how it aids in boosting their overall confidence and productivity and instills in them a sense of responsibility.

  • Provides a clear view of success

Dividing the task into bite-sized portions can make even a vast job look achievable. This is because dividing the task gives your kids a clear path to success, and having a clear vision of their goal helps them move forward more rapidly. As a result, they can spend their time and efforts more efficiently in finishing the task step by step instead of feeling overwhelmed by looking at it all as one mammoth, hard-to-achieve job.

A clear goal set in the minds can help a lot in decreasing procrastination among kids. Having practical plans in place and smaller milestones to achieve makes it easier to achieve success step-by-step without getting distracted. This helps them learn the crucial art of effective time management and how to divide the available time aptly between the various tasks. It also works wonders in raising their productivity and helps decrease the pressure of workload.

  • Keeps the spirits high

When taking on any tasks, especially the harder ones, your children mustn’t lose motivation. The best way to prevent this is by setting goals as it divides the humongous tasks into smaller, doable steps. As the steps become more manageable, the kids won’t feel discouraged and would keep away from the option of quitting. This helps the kids realize that there is no such feat that is impossible with the right attitude.

  • Serves as a measure of progress

Instead of blindly struggling and attempting to complete a task, setting goals and portioning the job gives a clear view of what is to be done and what has already been done. This helps quantify progress, which thereby also serves as a motivational factor to do more of the good work.

  • Gives purpose and maintains focus

Setting goals gives a person a clear vision of the steps needed to be completed to achieve success. It helps focus more appropriately on the work to be done and move in the direction of success with time. Goals also help them realize the purpose of doing the task. Additionally, it gives children the motivation from within to finish the set goals. This prevents the kids from feeling disheartened or frustrated when things don’t go their way.

We, at The Star Global School, recognized among the best schools in Rohtak, believe that when children learn to set goals and stick to them, they actually get on to the path of unleashing their true potential and performing to the best of their ability. Such kids grow into adults who don’t easily give up under challenging circumstances and rather work harder to refine their abilities. And as Earl Nightingale said, “People with goals succeed because they know where they’re going.” Hence, teach your kids the importance of goal setting and see how they gradually learn to challenge themselves to keep amplifying their abilities and keep moving up the ladder of success.
